A sheltered place below the ridge
Ashdown sits where a pine slope meets open water. Buildings follow the ground instead of flattening it, creating protected courtyards, changing views and an easy route from room to sauna to shore.
“The ridge brings perspective; the lake brings everything back to stillness.”

Following the ground to the lake
The buildings step down with the pine ridge rather than forcing one level platform across the site. Short changes in height create protected courtyards and varied water views. Step-free routes are planned separately and should be discussed when accessibility is an important part of the stay.
Sauna and water in real conditions
Wood-fired heat, cooling and rest form the core ritual; entering the lake depends on season, weather and individual confidence. Staff confirm current safe options rather than treating open-water access as permanently available. The cooling deck keeps a clear relationship with the shore in every season.
Choosing a lake or ridge room
Ash Rooms give the most direct water view, Pine Suites add living space and covered outdoor seating, and Downshore Studios offer privacy near the sauna path. Guests should consider steps, walking distance and desired outlook alongside room size.
